The Flexibility of an IP Phone System

Vocalocity’s hosted phones systems allow businesses to communicate much more efficiently than with traditional phone systems. IP telephony allows businesses to extend their phone system’s reach far beyond the walls of their brick and mortar location. IP Phones work by registering their unique IP addresses with the system each time they are plugged in. As long as a phone is connected to the internet, it can be located by the phone system, and thus receive calls at the appropriate extension number. Now, with Multiple Devices on One Extension, each extension can register up to 3 different IP addresses to connect a call.

IP, or Internet Protocol, technology is used by computers every day to connect to the internet and send information back and forth. Traditional phones used analog electronic signals to convey voice information. With analog phones, the phone number was associated with the hard line and location of the phone jack, as opposed to the phone itself. As a result, traditional phone systems were limited to physical locations. IP addresses are unique to the device, not the location, so they can move anywhere there is an internet connection.
