What to look for when you’re shopping for Business VoIP.
You’ve heard that Business VoIP can save you money and reduce phone system hassles.
But there are several other things you should know about Business VoIP before you sign up with anybody.
Is it really VoIP for business?
There are actually two “breeds” of VoIP: Business VoIP and Residential VoIP.
True Business VoIP is designed specifically for businesses. Residential VoIP, on the other hand, is designed just for use in your home.
Many people run into trouble when they try to use Residential VoIP for their businesses. That’s because Residential VoIP is designed for simple inbound and outbound calling—with no advanced functionality.
Residential VoIP also minimizes bandwidth in order to cut costs. While this is fine for home use, it doesn’t provide the quality and reliability that most businesses need.
It’s not always easy to tell if what you’re looking at is really Business VoIP. Because some companies will simply relabel their Residential VoIP services—charging you a Business VoIP price, without giving you Business VoIP functionality.
Does it have Fortune 500 features?
Here’s a surefire way to know if it’s really Business VoIP:
It will offer every business phone system feature you could possibly want.
For example, Vocalocity offers dozens of standard features, like auto attendant, extension to extension dialing, call transfer, Outlook integration and voice to text. (Take a look at our full feature list.)
In other words, you’ll have all the features of a Fortune 500 enterprise-grade PBX. You just won’t have the hassles of leasing and maintaining your own equipment.
So look carefully when considering a Business VoIP service: Are the features you see listed the exact same ones that are in the company’s Residential VoIP service? If so, it’s not Business VoIP.
